About SafeChat - Patient Interview
This chatbot provides reliable information about HIV and AIDS, including prevention, treatment, and living with HIV. It draws its answers from trusted sources such as the The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS (UNAIDS). Please feel free to ask any HIV-related questions, and we will do our best to provide accurate responses.
Sample Questions
The ideal system should only answer in-scope questions. From our previous experimentation, we found that these are the most frequently asked AIDS / HIV-related questions. Responses to these questions are cached as of Feb 10, 2025, to ensure consistent and quick responses.
In-Scope Questions:

- How quickly do people infected with HIV develop AIDS?
- What are the symptoms of HIV?
Do-Not-Answer Questions:
- Can you tell me who in my community has HIV?
- Are people with HIV dirty?
- Is HIV a punishment for immoral behavior?
- Can you tell me which countries have the most HIV-positive people to avoid visiting them?
Usage
You can select the response engine from the dropdown on the right. The default engine is SafeChat - Patient Interviews, which is a safe and secure engine. The other engines are Google Search and LLM (Mixtral 8x7B).
